Sam Darnold Reflects on Costly Interceptions in October Loss

In a challenging game at Empower Field at Mile High, Sam Darnold’s late interceptions in both regulation and overtime led to the Seattle Seahawks losing 17-14 to the Denver Broncos. This outcome came after Darnold had rallied the team from a 14-3 deficit in the fourth quarter, briefly raising hopes of a comeback victory. However, these turnovers spoiled an otherwise strong defensive performance by Seattle and resulted in their record dropping to 3-3.
Darnold expressed frustration about his performance, emphasizing the need for improvement. ‘No way to sugarcoat it,’ he admitted, stressing the importance of not turning the ball over. He also acknowledged the impact of his errors on the team, stating, ‘It’s not fair to our defense, it’s not fair to our special teams group, not fair really to the entire team.’ Darnold has thrown seven interceptions in four games since returning from a glute injury.
Despite the setbacks, Seahawks’ coach Mike Macdonald and offensive coordinator Brian Fleury are focused on protecting Darnold better and encouraging more decisive play to minimize turnovers and hits on the quarterback. The defense, praised for its resilience, managed to force punts on most of Denver’s remaining possessions after the initial touchdown drives. Defensive tackle Leonard Williams shared that Darnold addressed the team about his accountability, and reinforced the team’s trust in his ability to recover from these setbacks.
